Rick Wakeman, in arrivo al Teatro Nuovo Giovanni da Udine

RICK WAKEMAN, LA “CHIOMA BIONDA DEL ROCK” SARÁ LIVE IN PIANO SOLO, IL 9 FEBBRAIO, AL TEATRO NUOVO GIOVANNI DA UDINE, HA APPENA PUBBLICATO IL NUOVO ALBUM “PIANO PORTRAITS”.

Rick Wakeman, tastierista e compositore britannico, fra i principali esponenti del progressive rock mondiale degli anni settanta, storico membro degli Yes – band di cui ha contribuito pesantemente al grande successo – e ora interprete solista universalmente amato e riconosciuto, si prepara a conquistare il Friuli Venezia Giulia. Forte della fresca pubblicazione del nuovo album “Piano Portraits”, in cui interpreta con il suo grande talento canzoni classiche e moderne da Debussy e Tchaikovsky, passando per Beatles, David Bowie, Yes e Led Zeppelin, la “chioma bionda del rock” sarà protagonista in concerto in piano solo al Teatro Nuovo Giovanni da Udine domani, giovedì 9 febbraio, con inizio alle 21.00. Nato nei pressi di Londra nel 1949 e diplomato all’Opera della capitale, pianista classico passato alle tastiere, Wakeman ha iniziato la sua carriera negli anni ’60 come turnista, arrivando a incidere anche trenta pezzi l’anno. Entrato a far parte di uno dei gruppi precursori del rock sinfonico, gli Strawbs, è poi approdato ai mitici Yes, con i quali, in pratica, inventò un nuovo modo di usare le tastiere e il Minimoog, aprendo letteralmente la strada alle moderne tecniche e ai suoni del progressive-rock.

There have been over 1000 different recordings , selling tens of millions of copies. It’s become so ubiquitous – in lifts, as phone ring tones or on call-centre answering machines – that it has been denounced as Muzak for the middle classes. Rick Wakeman – platinum-selling prog rock keyboardist and television Grumpy Old Man – thinks the critics are wrong. He believes that the Four Seasons was so far ahead of its time that it was actually the first ever concept album – and that Vivaldi was the world’s first rock superstar. But how could a sickly 18th century priest create the prototype for Rick’s very modern genre? And why did Vivaldi and the Four Seasons disappear into obscurity for more than 200 years after his death? Rick turns detective to solve the mystery: his journey takes him to Venice – in the 18th century the most debauched city on the planet – where he encounters some of those who have devoted their lives to studying and worshipping Vivaldi … and uncovers the whiff of a very modern rock star sex scandal. Which may have contributed to Vivaldi’s downfall. But the investigation also leads Rick to unexpected places and people. He meets fellow prog rocker Mike Rutherford from Genesis and debates whose band Vivaldi would join; and he encounters the Croatian arranger and keyboard player whose multi-national assembly of musicians is turning the Four Seasons into heavy metal. Con gli Yes ha inciso tre capolavori assoluti: “Fragile”, “Close to the Edge” e “Yessongs”, album storici che hanno superato i 40 milioni di copie vendute in tutto il mondo. Nella sua luminosa carriera da solista ha inciso, tra gli altri, il disco “The Six Wives of Henry VIII”, altro successo planetario con i suoi oltre 10 milioni di copie vendute. Fra le collaborazioni tenute lungo il suo splendido viaggio musicale ne contiamo di straordinarie, Wakeman è stato per anni l’arrangiatore del Duca Bianco David Bowie, con cui ha scritto la celebre “Life on Mars“, e di Elton John. Ha inoltre realizzato album con numerosi altri importanti artisti, tra i quali spiccano Cat Stevens, la band dei Black Sabbath e Lou Reed.
